Cosmetic Dentist Treatments So Relaxing You Might Even Fall Asleep…

Sedation Dentistry London Ontario Cosmetic Dentist

Can you really be relaxed in a dentists office?  Do you have a toothache that is driving you crazy, but the thought of going to the dentist is even worse?  Depending on the problem, sometimes it may seem like you would rather bear the pain than go to the dentist.

Many people are very uncomfortable with the idea of having to go to a dentist.  Or, your child might be too fidgety to get their teeth treated properly.sedation dentistry london ontario

If you need a little help to calm your nerves so you can get help for your teeth, our sedation dentistry London Ontario clinic may be your answer.

Most sedation dentistry procedures can be done under a local anesthetic where the cosmetic dentist just numbs the area she is treating.  You won’t feel anything during the treatment.

If a local anesthetic is not enough, a general anesthetic can be applied so you sleep through the entire experience.

Discuss your needs with our sedation dentist.  We’ll work out the perfect solution for your dental health.

What Does Sedation Dentistry Mean?

Depending on what you need in terms of your fears and your medical requirements, there are several “levels” of sedation that can be applied:  Minimal sedation means you will be awake, but very relaxed.  Moderate sedation or conscious sedation means you may slur your words and are not likely to remember much of the experience.  Deep sedation is when you are asleep but can be awakened.  General anesthesia is meant to make you completely unconscious.  Depending on the procedures being applied, our London Ontario sedation dentistry dental clinic will help you select the right level of sedation so you can be comfortable in getting the help you need for your teeth.

How Is Sedation Adminstered?

There are four main ways to sedate the patient:

  • Inhaled minimal sedation is given through a mask.  It wears off quickly so you can drive yourself home after the treatment.
  • Oral sedation involves taking a pill about an hour before the treatment.  It makes you feel groggy but you will still be awake.  If you fall asleep, you can be awakened easily.
  • IV Moderate sedation is given through an IV in a vein.
  • Deep sedation is given through a medication.  You will be in a deep sleep and cannot be awakened easily until the medication wears off.

Talk to your sedation dentist to find the best method for you.
